Japanese Culture Event?

Post  Mr--grey on Tue Sep 28, 2010 7:53 pm

Can we have like a day or two where we look at Japanese culture outside of anime?
Like, for instance, Jrock, Jpop, FOOD!!!!, Japan as a country, the Japanese language, Japanese video games, etc.

It doesn't really have much to do with anime but it'd give people a chance to see Japan's not completely about nerdy anime and manga.

Good idea!

Post  StephySkittles on Tue Sep 28, 2010 8:17 pm

I think that's a lovely idea, and will definately get the attention of many people in the school. I have friends in the Multicultural Club, and I'm sure they could help me find someone who is will to help with a Japanese Culture event Smile

Maybe we could do a trip to Loblaws and buy sushi, and explore Japanese folklore.

AND GET RAMEN TOO

If anime has taught me anything the best event at school is a cosplay cafe. Yakisoba and Ramen Very Happy

Cosplay Cafe? AWESOME IDEA!!
We'll probably creep the rest of the school out but it sounds SO AWESOME!

Now would this be a cosplay kind of cosplay idea or a maid cafe sort of thing?

Normal cosplay I guess.

Ramen you can do with instant Ramen noodles and either make your own soup or use the packet, And all you need to add is Nori, soft boiled egg and Narutomaki Very Happy

I like my instant ramen best with a raw egg cracked in it before pouring the water in.
This is kinda off topic but anyone think we could trick someone into eating wasabi by telling them it's green tea icecream?

Well if we found someone really stupid I'm sure they'd buy that wasabi was green tea icecream. Really the only difference is wasabi is smoother. Twisted Evil

If we can do it before February somehow I can cook the food. I am part of the cooks internship course so I can gain access to that kind of stuff if I get permission

Most likely to do this cafe we would have to borrow a classroom

Just make sure it doesn't overlap with other school events, it could potentially lower the attending members...

Like Stephanie said we could try and organize this with the Multicultural club so it would be a bigger event.

@Yukimoru I've got a small collection of Jrock too (mostly Oshare Kei and Visual Kei). It'd be cool if we could work that in to the event but I don't think a lot of people are into Jrock or Jpop (not many I know anyways).

I rather like it, maybe put a poll up to judge the # of people who like it?

Yay! People like Jrock! I ask all my friends who like anime if they like Jrock or not and they all go "Wut?" Maybe there's more people than I thought who actually like it Very Happy

Good idea with the samples! I'm sure it won't bore people who just aren't interested in Jrock as much as if a whole bunch of random PVs were shown.
